Full body cryotherapy sessions can relieve pain and burn calories for weight loss
What is cryotherapy?
“Cryo” means cold. Cryotherapy uses super-chilled air for a short interval to cool the skin and muscle tissue. Chambers Clinic uses a whole body Cryo Science CryoArctic system. We also utilize the Cryo Science Penguin system, which enables us to provide cryotherapy pain relief directly to specific body parts as well as for aesthetics such as cryo facials.
How does cryotherapy work?
Chambers Clinic’s full body cryotherapy unit looks like a giant refrigerator with a window and computer display in the front. The patient steps into a chamber filled with nitrogen-cooled air at a temperature down to -140 degrees Celsius for 2-3 minutes, turning in place every 15 seconds. 100 percent of the treatment is monitored by a doctor or medical assistant, who assure your total comfort.
What can I expect during my cryotherapy treatment?
One of our patients said it best, “It’s cold – but ‘fun cold’!” Our cryotherapy machine is in its own private room. One of our medical professionals explains the procedure then takes your vital signs. We recommend leaving jewelry at home as you will be asked to remove it. You then change into a special robe as well as socks, slippers, gloves, earmuffs and a facemask to protect the more sensitive body parts. Our medical staff member re-enters the room to do a final check. We select some of your favorite music and have you enter the cryotherapy chamber, which is filled with cold air. You are asked to turn 90 degrees every 15 seconds. Then, just like that it’s over and your exit. Most of our patients say they experience a rush of energy.
What are the benefits of cryotherapy?
Cryotherapy boosts the neurotransmitter norepinephrine in the body, which helps to soothe pain and inflammation and promote healing. Cryotherapy also boosts blood circulation throughout the body, both to specific tissues for healing and in general, which results in a higher metabolic and caloric burn rate. The treatment also increases the level of endorphins, which can elevate mood and reduce stress. In addition, for aesthetics, cryotherapy increases collagen production, which in turn tightens the skin and brings forth a youthful glow.
