Infrared Sauna

Regular sauna sessions have benefits for detoxification, weight loss, pain relief, relaxation, sleep and more

What is infrared sauna?

A sauna is a small, heated, wood-paneled room that helps promote sweating. Infrared light is at the far end of the light spectrum, invisible to the naked eye. Infrared light and heat inside the sauna gently and more deeply penetrates the skin to help create a rise in core temperature. This results in increased metabolism and cellular activity.

How does infrared sauna work?

Infrared sauna is quite pleasant (much more so than being outside in the Arizona summer). Our Sunlighten sauna uses LED light to gently create heat and promote sweating. It is located in a private room and the wooden chamber itself is private, enclosed and self-contained. We heat the sauna to about 100-105 degrees prior to your arrival. You change into bathing clothes or towel, then enter and sit on the wooden bench. Heat is systematically increased depending on your protocol, but usually up to about 130 degrees. A typical session lasts 30-60 minutes. While you will get very sweaty, most of our patient have no problem reading or meditating inside. Music is available in the sauna. And our sauna can accommodate two people. Afterward, patients have access to a shower, which we recommend to rinse toxins off the body. Chambers Clinic offers discount packages of 10 sessions to help patients make sauna their healing or overall health regimen.

How can infrared sauna help with detoxification?

Many people are surprised to learn that the skin is one of our largest organs. Think about how many pores we have and how efficient regular sweating from our day-to-day movements enables the body to eliminate wastes. Sometimes though, our biochemical processes and immune system can get overwhelmed or become sluggish. When this happens, the body stores wastes elsewhere, including cells and fat.

Infrared sauna is a safe and proven way to stimulate our body’s detoxification – to gently push the process -- at a deep cellular level. When we sweat a lot we can eliminate more toxins from our cells and tissues - including the byproducts of bacteria and viruses, unwanted environmental and food chemicals, and heavy metals. According to Sunlighten, “Rather than simply heating the ambient air to draw out toxins, our sauna detox will heat your core to expel them.” This can help to improve and strengthen immune function and overall vitality.

Can infrared sauna help with relaxation and sleep?

Unlike traditional saunas which operate at extremely harsh temperatures, infrared is a gentle, soothing and therapeutic heat that promotes relaxation and improved sleep. Infrared sauna benefits include therapy that helps you relax while receiving an invigorating deep-tissue sweat, leaving you fully refreshed after each session.

How does infrared sauna promote weight loss?

According to Sunlighten, “Studies have shown that benefits of an infrared sauna session can burn upwards of 600 calories [per session]. As the body works to cool itself, there is a substantial increase in heart rate, cardiac output and metabolic rate, causing the body to burn more calories. During a sauna weight loss session, core temperatures increase. The body has to work hard to cool itself, causing a healthy sweat.” In addition, toxins are stored in our cells and tissues, including fat. When these are mobilized out during a sauna session, our metabolism ultimately can work more efficiently.

Chambers Clinic’s Sunlighten infrared sauna promotes weight loss by detoxifying the body and burning calories while you relax in total comfort.

Can I use infrared sauna for pain relief?

Infrared saunas are indicated and an effective for natural pain management for many different ailments. Infrared sauna heat works by penetrating joints, muscles and tissues, increasing circulation and speeding oxygen flow. By reducing soreness on nerve endings, the infrared heat reduces muscle spasms and helps the body heal itself naturally. According to Sunlighten, “They increase blood flow to the muscles, delivering more concentrated oxygen, which creates more energy to heal.” The detoxification properties of infrared sauna also come into play, particularly to mobilize toxins out of the body that contribute to autoimmune and rheumatic pain conditions.
